Bolt Action - automatic rifles and LMGs

This is more of a theoretical musing, but given that:

- LMG: 1 or 2 per squad, 10-20 pts, 3-4 shots at 36" range, takes second soldier (loader) to operate;
- automatic rifle: squad upgrade, 2-3 pts/model, 2 shots at 30" range.

So, whenever there's an option to include automatic rifles, it would appear the obvious choice is to trade the 6" extra range on LMG in order to get cheaper automatic rifles and more shots.

Comments, opinions? Am I missing something here?

The correct answer is: This is our job.

I don't know the system and the number of soldiers per squad, but in small squads (ie 6 men or less), price aside, the LMG is more shots, but again, for that price you could theoretically field more squads if the system and the amount of models you have permit it..... Anyway, I might be wrong in almost every possible way by not knowing the system at all... Hope any of this makes some sense kkkk

That's my point - even in small squads math doesn't add up:

- LMG is 10-20 pts, and has 3 or 4 (5 in case of Wehrmacht) shots, however requires loader (2nd soldier);
- automatic rifles give 2 shots/model at the cost of 2 or 3 pts/model.

Simplifying a bit, at best LMGs get 2 men w/4 shots (5 for Wehrmacht) at 36" for 20 pts, while the same two men w/automatic rifles get 4 shots at 30" for 6 points at worst.

14 pts is, roughly, 2 riflemen at Regular experience level.

Given that squads equipped with bolt-action rifles get only 1 shot at 24"/model, that's the distance one goes for anyway (to have full squad firing rather than just the LMG), the price difference makes LMG, imo, obsolete as soon as the automatic rifle becomes an option.

And this does seem quite counterintuitive.

The correct answer is: This is our job.
